Defending champion IK Kim returns to her favourite course in the world when she plays in this week’s Ricoh Women’s British Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes.

Watch Women’s British Open 2018The 30-year-old admits she failed to cope with the links the first time she visited for the 2009 Ricoh Women’s British Open but she has since come to love the challenge it provides.
“This is my favourite course, so just being here means a lot to me,” said Kim, who closed with a battling 71 twelve months ago at Kingsbarns to finish two shots ahead of England’s Jodi Ewart Shadoff on 18-under par 270 and claim the first major title of her career.
“The first time I came here I cried like crazy because I was going into every bunker and often not getting out.
“It was a bit shocking for me because I wasn’t used to that sort of thing, but I’ve since comes to terms with how to play links golf and how important it is to keep out of trouble. That’s very important here.
“I think it (Lytham) suits my game very well,” she added. “It’s a very tight golf course and it makes me think a lot. You have to hit the right shot but, at the same time, you know that if you don’t execute it well, then you will punished.”
